May 1–2. Golden Mask Festival. Three Sisters

The star of the new European theatre, director Simon Stone will present Theatre Basel’s adaptation of the Three Sisters.  The production that made a great success in Europe will be staged in Moscow for the first time.

Swiss theatres are actively attracting the most famous directors from all over the world. Theatre Basel is no exception. Therefore, there is nothing unusual that Stone, who moved to Europe from Australia to quickly become a headliner of the key European festivals, was the principal director of the Theatre Basel for two seasons in 2015-2017.  During this time he staged several of his most successful productions.

Stone is known for his fastidious workmanship in interpreting classical texts. Since his youth, he was passionate about Chekhov, and when a beginner he staged his «Platonov». Stone explains his passion the following way, «What Chekhov invented was the theatre of the threshhold – moments before and after the dramatic.… Our modern world has become the perfect reflection of Chekhov’s invention.»
